Star scholars in UH symposiums on translation next week

The University of Hawai'i-Manoa is hosting an International Symposium on Translation Reading on Monday and Tuesday.From 7:30 to 9 p.m. Monday is "Reading in Other Words: A Literary Event" at the Center for Korean Studies Auditorium. Academic stars who are also translators Hosam Aboul-Ela, Yunte Huang (he translated Ezra Pound's "The Pisan Cantos" into Mandarin), and UH's own Puakea Nogelmeier, Susan Schultz, S. Shankar and Reina Whaitiri will read literature in translation.
On Tuesday, from 7:30 to 9 p.m. in the Art Auditorium, will be a roundtable discussion on "Translation: Theory, Practice, Trope" with celebrated literary theorist Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak, Aboul-Ela, Huang and Hawaiian translator Noelani Arista.
