Honolulu Marathon a big hit on Japanese TV

Some 2.1 million Japanese households viewed a Jan. 8 taped broadcast by the Tokyo Broadcasting System of last month's 34th Honolulu Marathon.The highest viewership of the TBS broadcast was in the Kanto area of Japan, which includes the Tokyo metropolis and six other prefectures. TBS reported 1,196,000 households viewed the 55-minute show in that region.
That was a 7.2 share of the Kanto area's 16,607,000 households.
The 2006 Honolulu Marathon had 24,575 finishers, to be Hawaii's largest sporting event. It was the third largest marathon in America last year and the sixth largest in the world.
Early registration for the Dec. 9 Honolulu Marathon begins Saturday at Niketown and continues through Jan. 28. A discounted registration fee of $20 will be offered during that period.
