Horizon Lines adds real-time tracking on Alaska ships

Horizon Lines Inc., the No. 2 ocean carrier of freight to Hawai'i, said its established a real-time cargo tracking system for its Alaska service to provide shippers with detailed information during a container's transit.

The company said it is making use of radio-frequency identification (RFID) technology for the system. RFID tags are being placed on containers used in its Alaska service. RFID readers are also being installed at distribution centers, terminals and on key Alaska highway routes, the company said in a news release.
