Christopher Gallarde, 27, was arrested today on suspicion of kidnapping, robbery and auto theft, said Honolulu Police Capt. Frank Fujii. Gallarde has felony convictions for kidnapping, sexual assault, possession of a firearm, and terrorist threatening, police said.

Responding to a call at 1 p.m. yesterday, police said they went to a home in Pearl City and saw two men stripping a car that had been stolen earlier in the day. The men ran into a house on Kanihi Street and barricaded themselves inside, before surrendering. Police found a handgun at the Pearl City home that they believe was used in the carjacking in Kahala, Fujii said.

"I think the community should be releived," Fujii said. "Someone, who we considered armed and dangerous, with six prior felony convictions is now arrested."

A 27-year-old Aiea man, who evidently is not a suspect in the kidnapping, was also arrested.

Later today, police were called to Waipahu and said they found the second man believed to be involved in the carjacking, a 29-year-old Waipahu man. He was arrested on suspicion of robbery and kidnapping, Fujii said. That man is believed to have eight prior convictions, Fujii said.

Police said the kidnapping on Tuesday occurred about 4:30 p.m. after a woman and a man pulled their 1990 silver Lexus LS into a driveway of a house on Alakoa street.

At the same time, two men in a red car confronted them and demanded money. One of the men had a 9 mm pistol, police said. The men ordered the woman out of the car, robbed her cash and drove off with the 20-year-old male passenger and a 21-year-old man who had come out of the house. The 21-year-old man was released unharmed about 30 minutes later at Kahala Elementary School. The other man escaped when he jumped out of the moving car on University Avenue about 10:45 p.m. He was not injured.

The stolen Lexus was recovered near 7th Avenue.
