Big Island police seek help with assault, robbery case

Advertiser Staff

Big Island police are asking for the public's help in identifying two men who allegedly accosted a woman beachgoer in lower Puna on Sunday.

While at a public beach in Kehena, a 30-year-old woman was reportedly struck by the men while they took personal property and cash from her.

The victim received minor injuries as a result of the attack but did not require medical attention.

Both men are described as being in their mid-20s, about 5-foot-8 with tan complexions and medium builds. One of the suspects was further described as having short dark hair with a "buzz" haircut and a tattoo of the word "Puna" on one of his forearms. The other suspect was described as having shoulder-length "ehu" colored hair.

The two men were last seen leaving the Kehena area in a small blue sedan being driven by a man who appeared to be approximately 6-feet tall with light eyes and a muscular build.

According to a witness, the driver had a tattoo of a lion's face and a large "tribal" tattoo on his upper left arm.

Police ask that anyone who may have witnessed the incident or may know the identity of the suspects call detective Richard Sherlock of the Criminal Investigations Section at (808) 961-2379.

Those who prefer to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at (808) 961-8300 in Hilo or (808) 329-8181 in Kona. All Crime Stoppers information is kept confidential.
