A&B FOUNDATION PRESENTS $25,000
TO HAWAII BICYCLING LEAGUE
Honolulu, HI (January 18, 2007) – The Alexander & Baldwin Foundation (A&B Foundation), funded by the business activities of Alexander & Baldwin, Inc. (A&B) and its subsidiaries, has granted $25,000 to the John B. Kelley Endowment of the Hawaii Bicycling League.
The John B. Kelley Endowment was established to honor the late John B. Kelley, A&B vice president, investor relations, who passed away May 24, 2006. The purpose of the endowment is to provide for the Hawaii Bicycling League's long term security to support cycling in Hawaii forever.
Hawaii Bicycling League Executive Director Kristi Schulenberg said, "We are very appreciative of the A&B Foundation's tremendous generosity and for being a part of creating such a strong bedrock for John's dreams. With the support of the A&B Foundation, along with many other donors to the John B. Kelley Endowment, we will continue to work to build this endowment quickly so as to benefit from the security it will bring us."
Meredith Ching, A&B Foundation president added, "We believe John's passion for cycling– and his desire to see HBL provide ongoing service to the communitywill be preserved through this contribution to Hawaii Bicycling League's stability. It is a pleasure to create this legacy for John and to support HBL's vision of creating truly livable communities by increasing transportation safety and improving the quality of life for Hawaii's people."
To honor John's memory, the Hawaii Bicycling League will hold this year's April 29th Haleiwa Metric Century in his honor and the A&B Foundation will also serve as the event's Title Sponsor.
