TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE

"Monk" returns, 9 p.m., USA Network. One of the many things Adrian Monk has never done is to have a friend. Now he has a persistent one, played by Andy Richter. Monk is willing to do anything, even pretend to like hockey. At times, that's pushed too far. Monk leans dangerously close to being cartoonish. Still, there's a fairly good murder mystery here, plus the usual Monk quirks. It's always good to dump this precise guy into semi-chaos; hockey is ideal.

"Psych" returns, 10 p.m., USA Network. Shawn (James Roday) is a likable but eccentric young man, pretending to be a psychic because no one would believe he's just a great observer. Now he meets a former childhood acquaintance who has become a grown-up beauty. Her dad (Kurtwood Smith, the "That '70s Show" dad) is a retired cop whose mind is wavering. The guy insists he's seen a murder clue; others say it's his imagination. The result is a moderately interesting story that is sometimes overdone.

OF NOTE

"Grey's Anatomy," 7 p.m., ABC. If you missed Thursday's episode, here's a second chance. It begins with George's dad near death and with a teenager having little hope of getting experimental surgery for her severely curved spine.

"Ghost Whisperer," 7 p.m., CBS. This reruns the episode in which Melinda tries to help nudge the late Andrea over to the other side.

"Close to Home," 8 p.m., CBS. Here's another rerun. Annabeth returns from leave and finds a tough new boss (played by David James Elliott of "JAG").

"Las Vegas," 8 p.m., NBC. Mary only has one more unit to sell; she even brings in young music star John Legend to help with the sales push.

"Brothers & Sisters," 8 p.m., ABC. Kevin is attracted to a soap-opera actor, but isn't sure the feeling is mutual.

"Law & Order," 9 p.m., NBC. Richard Brooks again plays Paul Robinette, who was in the early seasons of the show, on the prosecution side. Now he's defending a man accused of a hate crime. New evidence complicates the case.

"Numb3rs," 9 p.m., CBS. This starts a two-part rerun, in which a teacher and her teen lover are on a cross-country crime spree, apparently headed for Los Angeles.
