Lingle releases names of judicial nominees

Associated Press

Gov. Linda Lingle yesterday released the names of nominees to fill the position of chief judge of the Intermediate Court of Appeals and a vacancy on the Circuit Court on O'ahu.

The names were provided to Lingle by the Judicial Selection Commission.

The six people nominated to succeed retiring Intermediate Court of Appeals Chief Judge James Burns are: Circuit Judges Sabrina S. McKenna and Frances Q.F. Wong; Intermediate Court of Appeals Associate Judge Daniel R. Foley; attorney Katherine G. Leonard; Michael Tanigawa, director of the law firm Char Sakamoto Ishii Lum & Ching; and Mark E. Recktenwald, director of the state Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs.

Three deputy prosecuting attorneys — Sherri-Ann L. Iha, Glenn J. Kim and Lori H. Wada — are among the six nominees to replace retiring Circuit Judge Marcia Waldorf. The other nominees are Peter T. Stone, per diem District Court judge; Cecelia C.Y. Chang, special assistant U.S. attorney; and Allen R. Wolff, a partner in the law firm Carlsmith Ball.

Lingle was given the lists Wednesday, triggering a 30-day period to make her selections.
