UH junior crowned Narcissus Queen

University of Hawai'i junior Jessica Lau was named Narcissus Queen last night at the 58th annual Narcissus Festival Queen Pageant in Chinatown.

Lau is a graduate of Roosevelt High School and is majoring in business at UH-Manoa.

As Narcissus Queen, Lau will get more than $20,000 in scholarships and prizes and travel expenses for a goodwill trip to China. Four princesses were also named last night.

They are:

  • Sibyl Wong, a senior at UH.

  • Adrienne Au, who received a bachelor's degree from the University of California, Irvine.

  • Jennifer Lam, a transportation security officer with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

  • Julia Chen, who is majoring in economics at UH.

    Contestants in the pageant must be at least half-Chinese and a resident of Hawai'i for at least six months.

    The pageant consists of four phases of competition: judges' interview, talent, Chinese evening gown and on-stage speech.
