Major earthquake strikes near Indonesia

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in 'Ewa Beach has issued an informational bulletin saying a major earthquake has occurred in the Northern Molucca Sea near Indonesia.

The 7.6-magnitude quake occurred at 1:28 a.m. today Hawai'i time outside the Pacific Basin and did not result in any tsunami threat to coastlines in the Pacific, according to Warning Center officials.

The coordinates for the quake were 1.2 degrees north and 126.3 degrees east.
