750-gallon spill at Kailua wastewater plant

Advertiser Staff

The Clean Water Branch of the Department of Health has received notice of a 750-gallon spill at the Kailua Waste Water Treatment Plant.

Of the 750 gallons, an estimated 200 gallons entered a drainage ditch leading to the fishponds and Kane'ohe Bay.

Inspection of the drainage ditch indicates that the possibility that some of the spill may have entered into an active flow portion of the ditch.

As a precaution, warning signs have been posted and water samples have been collected.

The department did not say when the spill occurred.
