Thieves crash stolen car during chase

Advertiser Staff

Police are searching the downtown area for at least one suspect involved in a stolen car and high-speed chase this morning.

The chase, which started around 4 a.m. near Punahou, ended after about five minutes when the black 1998 two-door Acura hit the retaining wall while attempting to exit the H-1 West lane onto the Pali Highway.

No injuries were reported in the single-car accident, but the driver and passenger fled on foot before police arrived.

At about 4:30 a.m., police had one suspect in custody about six blocks from the wreck. They were still searching for the second suspect, whom witnesses described as short, chubby and wearing a brown shirt and shorts.

The Acura was towed at 4:50 a.m.
