One killed, two hurt in bus-car crash on Kaua'i

LIHU'E, Kaua'i — A man was killed and two women injured this afternoon in a collision between a rental car and a tour bus on Kuhio Highway at Hanama'ulu.

The details of the accident were not available. Police said the bus driver, who was alone in the vehicle, was not injured.

The man who was killed and both women were visitors. The women were taken to Wilcox Hospital for treatment, and their condition was not immediately known.

The accident happened at 4:15 p.m. and closed the highway at the Kapule Highway junction for traffic in both directions for an hour. Traffic was allowed to pass on an emergency bypass road, with alternating traffic in one direction at a time until 6:30 p.m., when the northbound lane of Kuhio Highway was reopened. Southbound traffic was kept on the bypass road until about an hour later.
