Baseball America picks UH to win the WAC

The Hawaii baseball team is predicted to finish first in the Western Athletic Conference by Baseball America, the baseball publication reported on its Web site Monday.

The Rainbows, who made their first regional apperance last season since 1993, are projected as one of two WAC teams to make the regionals this season, the other being Louisiana Tech. Last year's conference champion, Fresno State, was picked to finish third.

Hawaii opens the 2007 season Friday with a three-game series against Santa Clara at Les Murakami Stadium.

The report also listed Justin Frash (at Designated hitter) and pitcher Matt Daly for its preseason all-WAC team.
