Aloha will accept passengers with personal oxygen

News Release

Beginning February 1, Aloha Airlines will accept passengers who travel with portable oxygen concentrators, under certain conditions. Until mid-2005, Federal Aviation Administration regulations prohibited use of personal oxygen units on commercial airlines because they contained compressed or liquid oxygen, which are classified as Hazardous Materials. More recently, the FAA has issued guidelines for use of battery-powered portable oxygen concentrators, which filter nitrogen out of the air and provide the user with a higher concentration of oxygen.

Aloha has agreed to accept passengers with the devices, provided they meet certain conditions. First, passengers intending to use a personal oxygen compressor must present a certificate signed by a medical doctor confirming their need for the item during flight and specifying what liters per minute (LPM) flow rate is required. They must also confirm that they are using an approved POC unit. The Inogen One and AirSep Lifestyle are the only approved POCs for use onboard Aloha Airlines aircraft.
