Chinese-flagged cargo ship granted entry for repairs

Advertiser Staff

A 485-foot Chinese-flagged cargo ship was granted permission today to enter the port of Honolulu for repair work on a cracked hull below the waterline.

The Tong Cheng was scheduled to arrive this afternoon. Coast Guard officials did not know how long the repair work will take.

Members of the Coast Guard's Salvage Engineering Response Team and Navy's Mobile Diving Salvage Unit One assessed the vessel's structural integrity before it was allowed into port.
