Big Break champ ready to tee it up in Turtle Bay golf

Advertiser Staff

Denny Hepler of Warsaw, Ind., winner of The Big Break VI: Trump National, will compete in the Turtle Bay Championship on the Champions Tour starting Friday.

The Golf Channel will provide coverage of the $1.6 million event on Friday and Saturday at 1:30 p.m. Hawai'i time and Sunday at 2 p.m.

Hepler, 51, captured The Big Break VI championship in December by defeating Jeff Mitchell 1-up in the season finale of the Golf Channel's reality series.

His victory earned a sponsor exemption to compete in the 2007 Turtle Bay Championship at the Palmer Course at Turtle Bay Resort.

Also making their Turtle Bay Championship debut are former PGA Tour players Fred Funk, Chip Beck, David Edwards, Peter Jacobsen, Tim Simpson, Kenny Knox, Jack Renner and Denis Watson.

Joining the field will be Hale Irwin, who is coming off his 45th Champions Tour victory last week at the MasterCard Championship at Hualalai. Irwin, 61, is vying for his seventh Turtle Bay Championship.
