UH, Fresno St. are coaches' picks to win WAC baseball

Advertiser Staff

The University of Hawai'i and Fresno State were tabbed co-preseason favorites to win the Western Athletic Conference baseball title by a vote of the coaches, the conference announced today.

The Rainbows placed six players on the preseason all-conference team, including pitcher of the year Ian Harrington. FSU placed five, including outfielder Ozzie Lewis, the player of the year.

UH's other all-WAC selections were pitcher Tyler Davis, catcher Landon Hernandez, third baseman Justin Frash, shortstop Eli Christensen and outfielder Derek Dupree.

UH and FSU, which each made NCAA regional appearances last year, received three first-place votes apiece from among the conference's seven coaches.

Louisiana Tech, which received the only other first-place vote, was third in the balloting.

UH opens its season Friday against Santa Clara.
