POLICE BEAT
Man arrested in car-ramming incident

Advertiser Staff

Police yesterday arrested a 47-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder and other offenses stemming from a car-ramming incident involving his former girlfriend.

Tilton Lasua was arrested about 12:15 p.m. after police received an anonymous tip that he had been seen in the area near Lunalilo and Liholiho streets in Makiki.

Police officers went to the area, located Lasua and arrested him. His former girlfriend filed a complaint earlier this month saying on Jan. 11 she drove her car to a residential area to avoid being around Lasua and was sleeping on the backseat when she was awakened by Lasua trying to break in through a back window.

She said Lasua got into her car and punched her before she was able to drive away, leaving Lasua behind. Police said Lasua was able to get into his own car and pursued his former girlfriend mauka on Kalihi Street, ramming his car into the back of hers 13 times, causing her to collide with a parked car and then a utility pole. The former girlfriend suffered minor injuries, police said.

Lasua left before police arrived at the scene of the accident. Police later issued a request for the public's help in finding Lasua.

The moped's owner, a 22-year-old woman, reported seeing the older woman "punch the lock" on the moped and called police.

They arrive at the scene and arrested the older woman on suspicion of second-degree theft.
