BI police arrest 25 for drunk driving in week span

Big Island police arrested 25 motorists for drunk driving during the week of Jan. 16 through Jan. 22. Six of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes and three drivers were under the age of 21.So far this year, there have been 69 DUI arrests on the Big Island compared with 51 during the same period last year, an increase of 35 percent.
There have been 132 major accidents on the Big Island so far this year compared with 146 during the same period last year, a decrease of 10 percent.
So far this year, there have been two traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared with two during the same period last year.
