High surf warning remains in effect

Advertiser Staff

The high surf warning for north- and west-facing shores has been extended to noon today, the National Weather Service said.

Surf along the northern shores is going to be 20 to 30 feet, with waves up to 40 feet on the outermost reefs through this morning. The surf will decrease to 16 to 22 feet by this afternoon and evening.

Surf along west shores will be 12 to 20 feet, with some waves up to 25 feet on the outermost reefs, through this morning. The surf will gradually decline to heights of 10 to 16 feet this afternoon and evening.

Elsewhere, surf along east shores will remain 3 to 6 feet and surf along south shores will be 1 to 3 feet.

A moderate northwest swell will build late tomorrow and peak near the high surf advisory threshold along north shores Friday. This swell will gradually decline Saturday. Another powerful northwest swell is expected Sunday and Monday. Otherwise, a small south swell is expected from tomorrow through Saturday.

Surf heights are forecast heights of the face or front of waves. Some waves may be more than twice as high as the significant wave height. Expect to encounter rip currents in or near any surf zone.
