Hiker apparently killed by fall on Big Island identified

Advertiser Staff

Big Island police today identified the man who apparently fell to his death last Thursday as Larry Holland, 59, of Westminster, Calif.

Holland had been hiking with a companion when the two of them got lost after dark in 'Opihikao in Lower Puna.

The 46-year-old woman told police that she heard a splash and Holland stopped responding to her calls.

Police recovered the body Friday morning at the bottom of a 100-foot cliff.

An autopsy Tuesday concluded that the cause of death was from a fall from a great height, police said.
