Macadamia nut sales expected to fall 12% this season

Hawai'i macadamia nut sales are expected to fall 12 percent to $38.5 million this season, according to a federal estimate released today.Production is forecast to rise slightly to 55 million pounds of wet-in-shell nuts from 54 million pounds in 2005, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service. Prices are expected to drop to 70 cents per pound, versus 81 cents per pound last season.
Final figures are scheduled to be released in July.
