Streets blocked for Kawananakoa Middle School drill

Kawananakoa Middle School, 49 Funchal St., between Nu'uanu Avenue and Pali Highway, began an off-campus evacuation drill at 9:30 this morning that is expected to affect traffic in the area.During the drill, Kawananakoa students, faculty, and staff will walk mauka to the evacuation site on Nu'uanu Avenue near Wyllie Street.
Portions of Nu'uanu Avenue and adjoining side streets — including Bates Street, Judd Street, Pauoa Road and Robinson Lane — will be temporarily blocked.
To minimize inconvenience, motorists are asked to avoid the area and take alternate routes. All schools are required to conduct evacuation drills, but most of them have evacuation sites closer to campus.
The Kawananakoa drill is expected to wrap up at 11 a.m.
