LECTURE

TRADITIONS OF THE PACIFIC SERIES KICKS OFF

Anthropologist Tianlong Jiao kicks off Bishop Museum's 2007 Traditions of the Pacific Lecture/Fieldtrip Series with the presentation "The Origins of Pacific Seafaring," from 6 to 8 p.m. tomorrow. Jiao, who has been conducting digs in China and made some startling revelations, will offer a glimpse of the upcoming exhibition "Lost Maritime Cultures: China and the Pacific," and talk about the Austronesians — the ancestors of all the peoples of Oceania and among the earliest voyagers from Asia to the South Pacific. The lecture will be followed by a field trip from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday to the Hawai'i Maritime Center. Lecture is $5; field trip is $8. To reserve: 848-4157 or e-mail shirley.tesoro@bishopmuseum.org.
