ILH basketball back on TV

Advertiser Staff

For the first time in at least 30 years, Interscholastic League of Honolulu basketball will be shown on live statewide TV tonight from Saint Louis' McCabe Gym.

OC-16 will broadcast the Division II game between Academy of the Pacific and Lanakila Baptist at 5:30 p.m., followed by the DI game between Saint Louis and Punahou at around 7.

Saint Louis is ranked No. 2 in The Advertiser's statewide Top 10 poll of coaches and media; Punahou is ranked No. 3.

OC-16 has been televising O'ahu Interscholastic Association sports since 1989, but the ILH did not agree to a live TV deal until last June. The first ILH broadcast was a softball doubleheader last Saturday.

"It was just a culmination of them learning more about us and us learning more about them," said Dave Vinton, manager of OC-16 sports.

OC-16 also will televise Friday's DI game between No. 1 'Iolani and No. 10 Kamehameha.
