Ace helps McLachlin shoot 2-under at Buick

Advertiser Staff

Buoyed by a hole in one, former Honolulu resident Parker McLachlin shot a 2-under-par 70 Thursday in the first round of the Buick Invitational in San Diego.

McLachlin shot one of the better rounds on the South Course at Torrey Pines.

Brandt Snedeker, who played on the North Course, shot 11-under 62. Tiger Woods, also playing on the North Course, shot 6-under 66.

The top 23 scores recorded came from the North Course.

The best score from the South Course came from Camilo Villegas, who shot 66. Phil Mickelson shot a 2-over 74 on the South.

McLachlin, starting on the back nine, was 1-over until his ace on the 12th hole — the course's par-3 No. 3.

He bogeyed the next hole to fall back to even, but birdied two of his final three holes.

In all, McLachlin had an ace, two birdies and two bogeys.
