The Brocos took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Former UH-Hilo player Kevin Drever led off the game with an opposite-field double to left, took third on Tommy Medica's sacrifice to third and scored when Matt Long won an 11-pitch at-bat with a chop double over the first base bag. Long took third when Nathan Faulkner grounded out to short, but was stranded there when Evan LeBlanc flied out to right.

The Rainbows tied it in the bottom of the second. Kris Sanchez led off with a double to left and Eli Christensen walked after an 11-pitch plate appearance. Evan Zimny struck out after failing to sacrifice the runners after the first two pitches, but Landon Hernandez's ground single to left scored Sanchez and sent Christensen to second. Vinnie Catricala grounded to second for an inning-ending double play.

Hawai'i chased Wickswat from the game in a four-run third that saw 10 Rainbows come to bat. Jorge Franco led off with a walk, Hee singled to center and Justin Frash walked to load the bases. After Brandon Haislet lined out to second, Sanchez walked to force across a run to give UH a 2-1 lead. Christensen followed with a sacrifice fly to right that also moved Frash to third.
