Two Pearl Harbor-based ships deploy to Middle East

Advertiser Staff

Two Pearl Harbor-based guided missile destroyers will deploy today to support President Bush's new military strategy in Iraq.

The USS O'Kane and USS Paul Hamilton are part of the strike group for the aircraft carrier USS Stennis, which is being sent to the Persian Gulf to bolster security in the region.

Bush announced this as part of his troop increases in Iraq.

The ships' arrival in the Middle East will mark the first time since the U.S.-led Iraq invasion in 2003 that the United States has had two carrier battle groups in the region.
