Early signup for Honolulu Marathon on record pace

Advertiser Staff

Several marathon runners are getting an early start on their competition for this year's Honolulu Marathon.

The 35th Honolulu Marathon doesn't take place until Dec. 9, but over the first six days of a nine-day early signup period, 2,476 runners have signed up at Niketown in Waikiki.

Early registration closes Sunday. Last year, a record 3,070 competitors signed up early. Marathon officials said in a news release this morning that they are expecting to shatter that record, largely because signups are up 20 percent over the same period a year ago.

Early registrants pay $20 for full entry fee privileges, including a commemorative timing chip.

The late entry fee for last year's marathon was $125.

Early registrants can also buy tickets to the Honolulu Marathon Luau/Concert at the Waikiki Shell on Dec. 7 for $20.

Registrants can buy up to six companion tickets for the same price.

The discount is restricted to Hawai'I residents and military stationed here.
