McLachlin shoots 67, vaults into top 10 at Buick

Advertiser Staff

Former Honolulu resident Parker McLachlin shot a 5-under-par 67 Friday in the vault into contention in the Buick Invitational in San Diego.

McLachlin, a Punahou School alum, had seven birdies and two bogeys on the Torrey Pines North Course, considered the easier of the two courses used in the competition.

On tougher South Course Thursday, McLachlin shot a 2-under 70, which included an ace on the No. 3 hole.

First-round leader Brandt Snedeker, who shot a 11-under 61 on the North Course Thursday, shot 2-under on the South Coure Friday.

Snedeker's two-round total of 13-under 131 leads by two over Charles Howell III (70-64—134).

McLachlin is tied for eighth at 137.

Tiger Woods is tied for 12th at 138 (66-72).

McLachlin birdied the first two holes and made the turn at 3-under 33. He birdied three of the first fives holes on the back nine and eventually closed at 2-under 36.

The 72-hole event ends Sunday.
