TANGLEWEED IN TWO

Americana band Tangleweed performs twice next month in Honolulu:

  • 7:30-9:30 p.m. Feb. 23 at the rRed Elephant.

  • 3-6 p.m. Feb. 25 at Ward Rafters in Kaimuki.

    Donations will be accepted at each venue.

    The five-man acoustic ensemble from Chicago recently released its second CD, titled "Where You Been So Long?" Its 14 tracks are a mix of originals, bluegrass, old-time country and Irish tunes, ballads and jazz.

    The band also will be a guest on Hawaii Public Radio's "The Blues Hang With Jon Alan," midnight-2 a.m. Feb. 24 on KIPO 89.3 FM.

    CARNIVAL GOES 'GREEK'

    The Punahou Carnival, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Feb. 2-3 on the school campus, is themed "Toga Times: Our Big Fat Greek Carnival" this year.

    The annual fundraiser for the school's financial-aid program is put on by the junior class and features rides, games, food, an art gallery, silent auction, flowers, produce and a white-elephant tent. Admission is free, but bring lots of cash to take part in the goodies.
