Lam eliminated from Waikoloa Challenger

Hawai'i's Chris Lam lost to Sergiy Stakhovsky of the Ukraine, 6-4, 6-3, yesterday in the second round of the $50,000 Hilton Waikoloa Village Challenger on the Big Island.
Stakhovsky is ranked 207th in the world.
Lam, who is beginning his second full year as a professional, is ranked No. 721 but is expected to jump up when the ATP World Rankings come out Monday. Lam beat No. 175 Sam Warburg in a first-round match Wednesday and No. 289 Todd Widom at a previous event.
Lam is heading to tournaments in Australia and New Zealand the next several weeks.

PROGRAMS GET FUNDS
The Hawaii Tourism Authority announced 12 local programs will receive a total of $800,000 in funding in 2007.
They are: Haili Men's Volleyball Tournament (March 26 to 31), Honolulu Triathlon (May 20), Kaua'i World Challenge (May 10 to 12), Maui Jim Hawai'i Marlin Tournament Series (June through Oct.), Duke's OceanFest (Aug. 19 to 27), Na Wahine O Ke Kai (Sept. 28), Moloka'i Hoe (Oct. 8), Ford Ironman World Championships (Oct. 13), Xterra World Championships (Oct. 28), EA Sports Maui Invitational (Nov. 19 to 21), Vans Triple Crown of Surfing (Nov. 12 to Dec. 20) and Sheraton Hawai'i Bowl (Dec. 24)
BASKETBALL
2008 MAUI FIELD SET
Two-time Maui Invitational champion North Carolina and former champion Indiana will compete in the 25th anniversary of the tournament during Thanksgiving week in 2008.
Alabama, Notre Dame, Oregon, Saint Joseph's, Texas and host Chaminade will also be in the tournament.
Duke, which has a record three Maui titles, will be joined in this year's field by Arizona State, Illinois, LSU, Marquette, Oklahoma State, Princeton and Chaminade.
