Six missing foster children turn up

Advertiser Staff

Six teenagers previously listed on the state Department of Human Services Missing Children Web site were accounted for during the past week, department officials said Friday.

The missing teenagers are believed to have voluntarily left their foster care homes, often without notifying their foster parents or social service workers.

Department Director Lilllian Koller is asking for the public's help in finding the nearly 75 children who are still missing. Anyone with information about a child listed on the Internet site, www.hawaii.gov/missing-children, is asked to call the local police department.

Department of Human Services officials are working with Hawai'i Foster Youth Coalition to contact children who returned to their foster homes after running away to discuss the issues that caused them to leave. Children who are currently on the run or are thinking about leaving their foster homes are urged to call the coalition at (808) 255-8365
