Big Island crash victim identified

A 44-year-old Big Island man involved in a one-car crash on Jan. 2 in Leilani Estates has died, police said.David B. McDaniel, of Kalapana, died Friday at The Queen's Medical Center. Police said McDaniel was in the backseat of a 1987 Subaru station wagon when it lost control in Leilani Estates and went into a ditch about 6:57 p.m. on Jan. 2. The 45-year-old driver, a Pahoa woman, was uninjured.
Police said the driver lost control after her right front tire became loose. It is unknown if speed or alcohol were factors.
