Man accused in cab driver shooting to appear in court

Advertiser Staff

A preliminary District Court hearing is scheduled Tuesday for a 25-year-old man charged Thursday with shooting and robbing cab driver Yu Kyo Kim in the parking lot of a Pearlridge bank at 98-1071 Moanalua Road in July.

Gregory Maika Kaahanui of Kahalu'u is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail for second-degree counts of attempted murder and robbery, and firearm offenses.

According to police, Kaahanui was identified as a suspect through a DNA match of a bloodstain on a jacket collar and ski cap recovered in the cab and DNA sample he voluntarily provided following his arrest for an unrelated offense last year.
