Honolulu Marathon early registration hits record high

Advertiser Staff

Honolulu Marathon early registration ended Sunday night at Niketown with an all-time record amount.

The nine-day period for the $20 discount signup resulted in 4,166 Hawaii residents and military committing to the 35th Honolulu Marathon on Dec. 9.

The total is nearly 1,100 higher than last year's record for the Niketown venue. It is also 266 more than the all-time early registration record set in 1994 at a different venue.

Today 905 marathoners filed into Niketown to topple the all-time record. The highest one-day total this year was on Jan. 20 when 1,094 registered.

Last month entrants paid a $125 late fee for the 34th Honolulu Marathon.

The $20 early fee included a commemorative timing chip.

Worldwide and online registration will open soon and new fees will be announced.

Last year the Honolulu Marathon had 28,635 entries with 6,750 from Hawaii. It was Hawaii's largest sporting event and the country's third largest marathon.
