Gibson won't start Monday

Advertiser Staff

Hawai'i head coach Riley Wallace said junior point guard Matt Gibson will not start Monday's game against Utah State for disciplinary reasons.

Gibson was an unexcused absence at Saturday's morning practice.

"We're trying to make a run here, and we need everybody to have the discipline it takes to make a run," Wallace said.

Sophomore Dominic Waters will make his first start of the season in place of Gibson on Monday. Wallace said Gibson will play a reserve role, although he was not sure how the minutes would be distributed.

Gibson has started all 20 games this season, and is averaging 9.1 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game.

Waters, who has shared playing time all season with Gibson, is averaging 7.5 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game.
