White House salutes Big Island officer for drug busts

Advertiser Staff

Big Island officer John Weber, who is assigned to the Hilo vice detail, was honored recently at the White House by the nation's top drug-control officials.

Weber received a distinguished service award from the Office of National Drug Control Policy at a White House ceremony on Jan. 18. Weber was honored for his "superior performance" in the fight against illegal drugs.

In 2006, Weber initiated 27 search warrants for marijuana-growing operations. This led to 57 arrests, the seizure of 8,228 marijuana plants, 24 weapons, $35,000 in cash and three homes. His work last year also shut down 13 large indoor marijuana-growing operations and 14 outdoor operations.
