Honolulu man accused of luring minor over Internet

Advertiser Staff

A 42-year-old Honolulu man was arrested Monday morning on suspicion of trying to lure a minor to Hawai'i for sex, according to the Michigan attorney general's office.

Jason Scott Neu, 52, was arrested at Honolulu International Airport and charged under Michigan law with a single count of child sexually abusive activity and one count of using a computer to commit a crime.

If convicted, both offenses carry maximum sentences of up to 20 years in prison.

Neu allegedly began chatting online with someone he thought was a 14-year-old Michigan boy. The "boy" in fact was an undercover investigator with the Michigan attorney general's office.

Neu arranged for the boy to fly to Honolulu and told him he would meet him at the airport, a news release said.

Honolulu police, assisted by state sheriffs executing an extradition warrant, arrested Neu Monday morning at Honolulu International Airport after he arrived to pick up the boy, police said.

Neu will be extradited to Michigan and is being held pending a hearing this week.
