2,200 still without power in Kailua, Kane'ohe

Advertiser Staff

Some 2,200 Hawaiian Electric Co. customers in Kailua and Kane'ohe were still without power as of 1:30 this afternoon. That's down from a total of 9,500 who lost power for a significant amount of time today, said HECO spokesman Peter Rosegg.

No new outages have been reported since midday, but Rosegg said crews will remain on call to cover expected worsening winds tonight.

"The weather report is for the winds to intensify and to get stronger until midnight, so we're gearing up for perhaps more problems," he said. "We have 125 crew members altogether. Everybody who's available who's not working on long-term or regular projects is devoted to getting power back."
