Civil Defense investigating accidental 20-minute siren

Advertiser Staff

State and county Civil Defense officials are investigating the cause of an emergency warning siren that accidentally sounded for 20 minutes this morning near Aikahi Park and Kane'ohe, said John Cummings, spokesman for O'ahu Civil Defense.

Cummings said the siren is likely owned by Marine Corps Base, Hawai'i.

The siren went off about 7 a.m. and when Civil Defense officials learned it was on, they transmitted a radio signal used to shut off the blast, Cummings said.

All Civil Defense sirens are tested at 11:45 a.m. on the first working day of each month.
