Na Hoku Hanohano Awards marking 30th anniversary

The Na Hoku Hanohano Awards, which honors achievement in Island music, this year will mark its 30th anniversary.The awards event is set for June 20, but the site is yet to be determined.
Other events in the milestone Na Hoku year:
Honorees will be Gabe Baltazar, veteran jazz saxophonist; the late Loyal Garner, revered as the "Lady of Love"; Rene Paulo, longtime pianist; the Society of Seven, the Waikiki showroom group that performed for 30 years at the Outrigger Hotel and now starring at the Flamingo casino in Las Vegas; and the Surfers, a Hawaiian music and recording group. A noon luncheon will be followed by the awards presentation; tickets are $70 ($65 for members of the presenting organization, the Hawai'i Academy of Recording Arts, until Feb. 15; VIP seating $95).
Cost is $175 per golfer, or $525 for a three-member team; includes golf fees, lunch, a gift bag, Celebrity Challenge, caps and shirt, banquet dinner and concert.
To qualify for the Na Hoku preliminary ballot, applicants must submit three copies of the release to the HARA office by Wednesday.
