Lawler returns to take on Garrett in 'All In' main event

Advertiser Staff

Former Icon Sport middleweight champion Robbie Lawler of Iowa will return to Honolulu to fight in the main event of the "Icon Sport: All In" mixed martial arts card on Feb. 9 at the Blaisdell Center Arena.

Lawler will face Ohio's Trevor Garrett in the main event of the 14-bout card. Lawler is 12-4; Garrett is 6-9.

After losing the middleweight (185-pound division) championship to Jason "Mayhem" Miller last September, Lawler rebounded with a spectacular first-round knockout of Joey Villasenor in Las Vegas in October.

A victory by Lawler next week could earn him a rematch with Miller, or a shot at current middleweight champion Frank Trigg.

In the semi-main event, Renato "Charuto" Verissimo will make his Icon Sport debut against Kris Fleurestill. Verissimo is a former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) world title contender. He is originally from Brazil, but now trains on the Big Island.

Hawai'i fighters Scott Junk, Mark Moreno and Tyson Nam are also scheduled to fight on the undercard.

Also, Chico Cantiberos of Waimanalo will face Bronson Pieper of Wai'anae for the Hawai'i state championship in the 145-pound division.

Ticket prices range from $35 to $150, and are available at the Blaisdell Center box office, and online at ticketmaster.com.
