3 millionth visitor boards USS Missouri memorial today

Advertiser Staff

The Battleship Missouri Memorial Tuesday morning welcomed its three-millionth visitor — a visitor from California vacationing in Hawai'i with his wife.

"It is such a pleasure to be here and experience a piece of history," said Jason Kadluboski, of Hollister, Calif., in a press release.

Kadluboski was identified as the three-millionth visitor as he and his wife, Sandee, were making their first visit to the Mighty Mo.

Presenting several gifts on behalf of the board of directors, staff, volunteers and supporters of the Missouri were retired Capt. Don Hess, president and chief operating officer of the USS Missouri Memorial Association, and Paul Dyson, the association's vice president of marketing and sales.

The gifts included:

  • A USS Missouri admiral's cap

  • A commemorative teak plank, constructed from a piece of the Missouri's deck

  • A U.S. flag flown above the Missouri today, and previously on the 60th and 61st anniversaries of the surrender of WWII

  • A complimentary tour featuring highlights from the Missouri's various tours

  • A lifetime membership to the Battleship Missouri Memorial

  • A "Mighty Mo: The Last Battleship USS MISSOURI" DVD

  • A "Battleship Missouri" book

  • A commemorative coin

  • A Battleship Missouri T-shirt

After more than a half-century in service, including three wars — WWII, Korea and Desert Storm — the USS Missouri now serves as a floating museum. The Battleship Missouri Memorial opened on Jan. 29, 1999, and now receives about 1,000 visitors each day.
