Firefighters busy with electrical, roof calls

By David Waite

Honolulu firefighters have been busy responding to problems caused by the high winds during the past three days.

Since Monday, firefighters have responded to 24 electrical incidents and 40 "blown roof" incidents, according to statistics kept by the Honolulu Fire Department.

Firefighters responded to 29 wind-related calls Monday, five on Tuesday — when the wind dropped — and 30 today when the wind reappeared.

Kenison Tejada, Fire Department spokesman, said the electrical calls included downed power lines, trees leaning on or severing electrical lines and calls about arcing wires.

"The blown roof stat is a service call for us," Tejada said. "Most of them were shingles blowing off the roof or part of a roof being blown off, but ... not a whole roof or catastrophic roof damage," he said.
