La'ie school gets boost to Space Camp with $10K grant

Advertiser Staff

The Office of Hawaiian Affairs has awarded La'ie Elementary School a $10,000 grant to support travel costs for the school's upcoming trip to "Space Camp" and the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Ala.

In May, about 24 6th-graders from La'ie Elementary and six La'ie and "Space Camp" alumni who now attend Kahuku High & Intermediate will participate in a math- and science-intensive "mission" at the center. They will be accompanied by six teachers, the principal and a parent.

The OHA grant will partially support travel costs for the participants of Hawaiian ancestry, including 12 of the elementary school students, five of the high school students and three of the teachers.

La'ie Elementary has taken students to Space Camp for the last three years.
