Advertiser Staff

Most of the state is under a wind advisory until 4 a.m. Thursday, the National Weather Service said.

Winds are expected to increase out of the southwest Wednesday morning ahead of a cold front.

Southwest winds will increase to 20 mph to 30 mph with gusts to 50 mph by Wednesday afternoon.

A wind advisory has been in effect for summits on the Big Island and Maui. Winds near 40 mph have been observed on Mauna Kea.

A wind advisory means there will be strong winds of 30 mph with frequent gusts above 50 mph. Winds will be highest along ridgetops, through valleys and areas downwind of mountain areas.
