Mililani boys win OIA Red West basketball title

By Kyle Sakamoto
Advertiser Staff Writer

It took a while for the Mililani boys basketball team to get going offensively Wednesday night, but once it did, Campbell had no chance.

Scott Burns scored 19 points and Nick Kanno added 11, and Mililani used a 10-1 run to start the third period to beat Campbell, 62-46, at McKinley.

The Trojans, ranked No. 5 in The Advertiser's Top 10 poll, improved to 11-0 and claimed their second consecutive O'ahu Interscholastic Association Red West title.

Mililani's run to open the second half gave it a 31-18 advantage with 5:50 remaining. Jonathan Keen scored seven points and Donovan Olmos added a 3-pointer during the spurt.

The Trojans spent the entire game in a 1-3-1 zone, and forced No. 9 Campbell into 17-of-57 shooting from the field and 14 turnovers.

Jayden DeLizo scored 10 points for Campbell, which fell into a tie for second in the OIA West with Radford.
