Whipping winds keep state under advisory

Advertiser Staff

The state remains under a wind advisory because of strong southwest winds of 20 mph to 30 mph and gusts of up to 50 mph, the National Weather Service said. The advisory will run through 4 a.m. Thursday.

Also, the summits of Maui and the Big Island are under a high-wind warning until 6 p.m. Wednesday because of frequent gusts of greater than 60 mph, the weather service said.

The winds are ahead of a cold front, which is expected to reach Kaua'i tonight and move south along the state Thursday and Friday bringing showers. Some will be quite heavy, the weather service said.

But take heart: forecasters predict Super Bowl weekend will be cool, dry and sunny.
